Helping to spread our world-class electronic materials to society

Meeting the expanding global demand for materials essential for semiconductors

I’m committed to working with the mindset of, “I would like to spread Mitsu bishi Materials’ world-class electronic materials even further.” Mitsubishi Materials Group’s electronic materials are used in a variety of the electrical appliances that are around us, such as automobiles, smartphones, and televisions.
I joined the company as a mid-career hire in 2016 because I was attracted by the good personalities of the people working at Mitsubishi Materials. I’m in charge of the sales of electronic materials produced by Mitsubishi Materials Electronic Chemicals Co., Ltd., located in Akita Prefecture, and I was put in charge of selling products to overseas customers this April. More specifically, organic fluorine compounds and inorganic nanoparticles. To put it simply, I handle powder and liquid materials.
The products that we handle are mainly used for semiconductors. There was very strong demand for semiconductor-related products from the time shortly after I joined the company to more recently, and supply was unable to keep up with daily demand for our mainstay products in the Japanese market in particular.
As we had a limited number of staff members available, I was often busy. However, in order to serve the many customers waiting for our products, we communicated closely with relevant parties, understood the needs of each company, and met their requests. I take pride in the experience that we were able to steadily expand our sales and achieve good results.

Careful explanations using my own words to build relationships of trust with customers

In sales, explaining laws and regulations related to chemicals is an extremely important process that influences our relationships of trust with our customers. At the same time, it is also a very difficult process. In particular, due to the recent reinforcement of regulations regarding organic fluorine compounds, which I’m in charge of, we need to provide a careful explanation to ensure our customers understand, in addition to discussing usage policies with them.
I have learned the approach of being sincere to customers and giving careful explanations from my supervisor. Whenever I accompanied my supervisor, I listened to what he explained and took notes, thought about his explanations again by myself, and understood them by putting them into my own words. By repeating this process, I learned this approach. To build relationships of trust with customers, I always keep in mind giving easy-to-understand explanations that are tailored to them.
The reason I can fully dedicate myself to sales is that I want to support our Group members who are working hard at the production sites. Many people have high expectations for the potential of our products and for my work, so I strive to sell our products to meet their expectations. Seeing Group members working hard encourages me to do my best.

Further delivering new products, which have potential for success, overseas

To realize Our Commitment in the Medium-term Management Strategy FY2031, our mission is to continue to produce high-value-added products for society. In addition, there is a need to quickly collect information on the global market in order to respond to changes in society. As for products that use our electronic materials, their life cycles have been shortened, and new products are created one after another, so it is necessary to collect information in advance.
Currently, I am expected to promote the sales of new products, which have potential for success, overseas. In particular, I will focus on promoting the sales of the inorganic black pigment, NITRBLACK® UB-2, which is a further evolution of our proprietary technology that was the first of its kind in the world and has improved ultraviolet transmission. This material helps to improve energy efficiency for displays and other products and is attracting attention.
I have two goals at work. The first is to become someone who others want to work with and to collaborate with various kinds of people. The second is to further promote the world-class brand of Mitsubishi Materials.
While it is said that the brand strength of Japanese products has weakened, I believe this is not the case. Behind the scenes, our products are needed and demonstrate their value in every corner of the world. I am determined to test my potential in promoting their value as much as possible.
Ms. Chen has valued mutual help with senior and junior colleagues in the workplace. “As those around me are always kind and give advice, I’m able to give my all,” she said.
