A New Life for Local Wood
"Local production for local consumption" of timber—supplying locally sourced wood to the local community.
This approach not only revitalizes the regional economy but also contributes to reducing environmental impact by shortening transportation distances, which in turn lowers CO₂ emissions associated with logistics. Mitsubishi Materials owns an expansive 10,000-hectare company forest in Hokkaido and actively promotes local production for local consumption by leveraging regional characteristics.
Timber from our company-owned forest in Hokkaido has been used in the headquarters building of AIR WATER HOKKAIDO INC., known as "AIR WATER INNOVATION HUB," as well as in tables at the multipurpose commercial complex "COCONO SUSUKINO" in Sapporo. These initiatives were made possible by a shared commitment to environmentally friendly forest development and a mutual desire to utilize local timber.
At Mitsubishi Materials, we are dedicated to realizing a circular society by strengthening collaboration with local communities and promoting the sustainable use of forest resources. We will continue to advocate for environmentally conscious timber use, passing on rich natural environments to future generations.
