New "Our Values" of the Mitsubishi Materials Group: A Global Collaboration of 16,000 Minds

In August 2024, Mitsubishi Materials Group announced its new "Our Values," which serve as the guiding principles for each employee in fulfilling "Our Commitment " toward 2030.

The process for formulating the new Our Values involved gathering input from employees around the world: "What values does the Mitsubishi Materials Group need right now?" and developing based on the collected feedback.

This article introduces a first-ever global project for the Mitsubishi Materials Group that engaged employees across the organization.

Launching the Our Values Renewal Project — Driving Force for fulfilling "Our Commitment"

Mitsubishi Materials Group's Medium-term Management Strategy FY2031 began in April 2023.
We have established "For people, society and the earth, circulating resources for a sustainable future" as Our Commitment toward 2030. This means expanding resource recycling through the recycling of metal resources and providing the world with a wide variety of high added-value products, thereby creating a sustainable future.

To achieve this, we believe that "guiding principles" are required for each employee working at the Mitsubishi Materials Group to exert their fullest potential. Thus, in March 2024, we launched the Our Values Renewal Project.

Thirty Passionate Ambassadors Engaged in a Heated Discussion — What is the identity of the Mitsubishi Materials Group? What values are currently lacking?

As the first step, we invited Group employees to volunteer from domestic sites called "ambassadors" to develop a proposal that would serve as the foundation for the new Our Values. The ambassadors represented various departments, ages, and backgrounds. Participants ranged from young employees in their second year at the company to those with over 30 years of experience. Thirty individuals from these diverse backgrounds gathered for a day to discuss and develop the new Our Values.

"What makes our Group exceptional?"
"What would we like to evolve?"
"What values are we currently missing?"

The ambassadors eagerly captured their insights and ideas on sticky notes, totaling over 1,000 submissions.

16,000 Votes Craft the New Our Values of the Mitsubishi Materials Group

In May 2024, we started collecting feedback from Group employees around the world based on the ten values proposed by our ambassadors.

Mitsubishi Materials Group operates in 32 countries and regions around the world, utilizing a total of 20 languages. The voting platform has been developed in these 20 languages. Additionally, there have been significant efforts to encourage voting by enhancing communication with employees.

As a result, approximately 16,000 employees, which is over 80% of the 19,000 employees in the Group, participated in the voting, and nearly 9,000 comments were submitted. All comments were translated, and a text analysis was conducted to identify which phrases resonated most with our employees.

In the final step, the Executive Officers discussed elements to be added to Our Values from a management perspective. This is how the new Our Values were finalized: "Challenge," "Change," "Growth," "Praise and Appreciation," and "A Better Tomorrow."

The icons representing each of the five values were designed in alignment with the key visual of Our Commitment. This collaboration aims to reflect the character of our Group and encourages everyone to take pride in and cherish the new Our Values.

Our Values Created by All, Guiding Individual Actions

The new Our Values for the Mitsubishi Materials Group were developed collaboratively with employees from around the world.
To fulfill Our Commitment, it is essential that we each take action based on the Our Values.

As a first step, workshops were held at our Group sites worldwide from October 2024 to March 2025. During these workshops, employees reflected on their daily actions and considered how their behavior could align with Our Values while also accounting for the opinions of their colleagues. They then articulated these thoughts and shared them with one another.
In a post-workshop survey, over 85% of participants expressed a desire to embody Our Values in the future.

By beginning with small steps, individuals can build up their actions to create great strength.
