A major challenge facing Japan after WWII was the reclamation of devasted mines. To accelerate their recovery, Mitsubishi Materials was one of the first to start developing necessary rock tools in the 1940s. In the process, we developed a product with cemented carbide blades. By developing a lighter product with higher drilling performance compared to traditional tools, we contributed significantly to the efficiency of mining operations and postwar reconstruction.
